1786 The Museum is housed in Reading's Town Hall. The oldest part of the present complex is the Victoria Hall built in 1786. This was rebuilt in 1864 when the Father Willis Organ was installed.

1875 A new building was added containing the Council Chamber, Mayor's rooms and council offices. It was designed by Alfred Waterhouse, the architect of the Natural History Museum. Its clock tower is still a distinctive Reading landmark.
