Waterstones Bookshop Exhibit

The bookshop is situated on the site of the Broad Street United Reformed Chapel, originally the Independent Chapel, built in 1707. The front of the building was constructed in 1892. Original architectural features can still be seen throughout the building.

Waterstones

Two display cases on the ground floor hold some of the coffin plates and memorial stones that have been found on the site and are now part of the collections cared for by Reading Museum Service.

The inscriptions include tributes to John Jones (died 1757), Margaret Legg (died 1847), Charles Francis (died 1835), John Cooper (died 1875) and Sarah Taylor (died 1818).
