The Oracle Gates in the Reading : People & Place gallery

The Museum is planning to redevelop the current 'Reading: People and Place Gallery'. This will form part of the wider Abbey Quarter project to reveal Reading's rich history.

Some elements of the display are now almost 20 years old and are beginning to show their age. The new gallery will give visitors a great first impression of Reading and do justice to over 1000 years of history. We have already asked local people what we should include in the new gallery and how they would like to see it laid out. Over 300 visitors have already given their thoughts.

During 2012 we are inviting community groups to take part in workshops and share their views on a new pilot display that will look at Reading since 1945. This work is being supported by the Earley Charity. This consultation will shape our plans and result in a Reading local history gallery of which we can all be proud. If you are a member of a local community organisation and wish to take part in the consultation process, we would be very pleased to hear from you.

The pilot display was installed in February 2012.  There are comment cards for visitors, so please come in and let us know what you think!

Please get in touch using the Contact Us form on this website (choose 'Collection enquiries' from the drop-down list).
