Look out for volunteering opportunities on the project on the Museum's volunteer page or get involved through the Friends of Reading Abbey, who support us when we run tours of the Abbey Quarter and the Ruins. Following the success of our Round 2 application to the Heritage Lottery Fund for the Reading Abbey Revealed project  more volunteering opportunities will be available in 2017.

Friends of Reading Abbey
The Friends exist to help raise awareness of the Abbey and its important history; they also support the Council’s aims to preserve the Abbey Ruins and to pull together the historical sites in the former Abbey precinct into the Abbey Quarter.

Members of the Friends also work actively with us to run the site and are represented on the Abbey Quarter Board. To find out more about the Friends of Reading Abbey please follow the link to the Friends website below.

Getting Involved
As part of the successful Reading Abbey Revealed HLF bid the team has developed an activity plan. This plan is a commitment to ensure that the project works with community groups and the people of Reading to raise the Abbey profile so that it is used by the public when it is once again open. The expectation is that this will lay the foundations for the site to continue being appreciated and used long after the project is finished.

Upcoming public projects, events and activities related to Reading Abbey Revealed can be found on the Abbey News and Events page, by subscribing to the Abbey Quarter newsletter and through the Reading Abbey Revealed social media pages.

To keep up to date on tours and other events and receive newsletters join our mailing list by  emailing our project team
