Abbey News and Events
A hard hat tour inside the dormitory ruins
While access to the Ruins is restricted to the public during conservation works, there are still opportunities to get involved and find out more about the project:
Several times a year you can join tours of the Abbey Quarter. All events are advertised on the Museum website ‘What’s On’ section and keep an eye on our Twitter and Facebook pages.
We have also held several consultations to help us develop our plans. In January 2014, we held a consultation asking people to tell us what they thought about the Abbey Quarter project. We received a record number of 1156 responses, the most ever received for an online consultation held by the Council. The results showed that respondents overwhelmingly supported the Council’s application, with 97% of responses in favour of the bid.
Throughout January and February 2015 our Activity Plan consultants for the Reading Abbey Revealed project held a survey asking people to tell us what they thought about our proposals. The survey received 1053 responses, which is also the most received by the consultants for any project they have worked on. The results of this survey will help to develop the activity and interpretation plans for the project.
