Reminiscence Training
We provide training as part of the one year membership of the Reminiscence service. We can also offer training to other organisations.
Training is an essential part of Reminiscence for care professionals wishing to join our Memory Box Service. We provide one session as part of the £60 annual membership of the service and additional staff are welcome at a cost of £40 each, subject to availability.
We pride ourselves on delivering high quality training, but don’t take our word for it – this is what just one trainee said:
“On each course you get the opportunity to look at some of the boxes and are shown how to use them and the best way to introduce each item. There are cards with useful questions and a small explanation of what each item is and how it may have been used. This is extremely useful as some of our newer younger staff, may have never even seen some of the items in the box before.
I found this to be some of the best training I have had, as it puts you in the position of the client, seeing objects that provoke or not a memory or feeling inside of you. A simple shopping basket handed round to a group of people from all backgrounds and workplaces, produced many different memories and feelings, some good, some sad, and for some no memory, it just a basket. Each item in the Memory boxes will affect different people in individual ways which is what makes them so unique.
The memory boxes hold everyday items that would have been used by almost everyone. This is what makes them so excellent to use as I have not yet had one with an item that was unsuccessful. Each item has provoked some memory or feeling either from yesteryear or only yesterday”.
