Student Memory Interview: Question 66: What did the students remember about their conversations with friends at that time?


Conclusion: 38% (9) of 24 students remembered their conversations with friends at the time of the loan. Twice as many female students (6) remembered conversations than male students (3). These included comments that related equally to the objects' function and design or the students' preferences and opinions.

Summary of findings:
These findings are based on interviews with 24 primary students in Y3-Y6: 12 higher ability and 12 lower ability; 12 females and 12 males. The students were interviewed 7 - 10 months after their use of these loans in the classroom.
  • · Only 25% (3) of the 12 male students remembered their conversations with friends in comparison to 50% (6) of the 12 female students. There was a balanced range of abilities within both male and female groups.
  • · 33% (3) of the comments were related to each of the following areas: technology and function; design comparisons; and opinions and preferences.

I said to my friend... he sat next to me in English, I was showing him it. I said to him," Look how it works, it's very basic."

I said to my friend... They kept on asking what would you use it for? And I said "Nothing really."

I said to my friend… That looks like what we've got now but it isn't.

5. Student C4: Female: High Ability: Y3: Glass Buoy
I said to my friend... it would sink in the sea if you put it in nowadays.

6. Student H3: Female: Low Ability: Y5: Ancient Egyptian Jewellery
I said to my friend... All my friends were wondering why the jewellery was decorated with all the stones in different sizes.
