Conclusion: 84% (21) of 25 teachers put the loans on display some or all
of the time that the loans were in school. 68% (17) of the teachers had the loans out at
least 50% of the time. This type of usage may influence the design of future loans. It
also indicates that the students have increased access to the objects.
Summary of findings:
25 teachers were asked this question. These are their responses.
- · 40% (10) of 25 teachers said they keep some or all of the loans on display 100% of
the time the loans are in school.
- · A further 28% (7) of 25 teachers said they kept the loans on display at least 50% of
their time in school [three 50%, one 70%, one 80%, and two 90%]
- · 16% (4) of 25 teachers said that they put the loans on display less than 20% of the
time. The remaining 16% (4) of 25 teachers said they did not put the loans on display at
all.
- · Reasons for not putting the loans on display include:
1. They are out only when they are used.
2. Because I am part-time, I can't leave them out if I'm not here because the children
might handle them inappropriately.
3. This is because of vandalism. There have been several break-ins into the school. We
can't monitor them.

As soon as I get the loans, I choose out of the four which one is the most suitable
collection for display. The rest are circulated as people want. There is something always
there. These loans are also used in lessons and put back afterwards.

Teacher L would not use the loans in her lessons. She also said that she used about
90% of the loans in the boxes to put on display. She said she found the bird skull
demonstrating what the earrings had been made from particularly horrible and did not put
it out.

me not to display the water vole as she has an aversion to rats and the water vole was
upsetting her every day. But the kingfisher has been out 100% of the time.
