Teacher Interview: Question 6: Would you be interested in ordering mini-exhibitions for display from the loan service?

Conclusion: 90% (18) of 20 teachers were amenable to the idea of a mini-exhibition loan. One of the teachers said the question was non-applicable as they were not responsible for display. While another teacher would not order a mini-exhibition for display because of school vandalism. This highlights the need for some consideration for security in future loan designs.

Summary of findings:
20 teachers were asked this question. These are their responses.
  • · 90% (18) of the teachers said "yes", they would be interested in ordering a mini-exhibition for display from the loan service.
  • · 5% (1) of the non-user teachers said "no", they would not be interested in ordering a mini-exhibition for display from the loan service. This is because: "There are even break-ins in the office area".
  • · One teacher (5%) said that he was not responsible for display and therefore the questions was N/A.

Teacher Interview: Question 6: Individual Answers:

Key: A "user" is a school that already uses the loan service. A "non-user" is a school that does not currently use the loan service.

1. Teacher A: User: Primary
Would you be interested in ordering mini-exhibitions for displays from the loan service?
Yes
If more was available, we would use it. It may be helpful.

2. Teacher B: User: Primary
Would you be interested in ordering mini-exhibitions for displays from the loan service?
Yes
Quite interested. Some of the loans we have now are on display under perspex but we did not use them today because they did not fulfil the aims of the lesson. This involved the children having an artefact between two which they could turn in their hands and explore. We have had the Tudor ship and models of a man and woman before. We did a lot of sketching from these in Art.

3. Teacher C: User: Primary
Would you be interested in ordering mini-exhibitions for displays from the loan service?
Yes

4. Teacher D: User: Primary
Would you be interested in ordering mini-exhibitions for displays from the loan service?
Yes

5. Teacher E: User: Primary
Would you be interested in ordering mini-exhibitions for displays from the loan service?
Yes

6. Teacher F: User: Primary
Would you be interested in ordering mini-exhibitions for displays from the loan service?
Yes
Although hesitant. For the school this would be interesting but wouldn't want the responsibility. Some children don't know how to treat objects.

7. Teacher G: User: Primary
Would you be interested in ordering mini-exhibitions for displays from the loan service?
Yes
We are already using the loans for a special display in the library. It is being developed into a research area.

8. Teacher H: User: Primary
Would you be interested in ordering mini-exhibitions for displays from the loan service?
Yes

9. Teacher I: User: Primary
Would you be interested in ordering mini-exhibitions for displays from the loan service?
Yes
Why not!

10. Teacher M: Non-user: Primary
Would you be interested in ordering mini-exhibitions for displays from the loan service?
Yes

11. Teacher N: Non-user: Primary
Would you be interested in ordering mini-exhibitions for displays from the loan service?
Yes
It is important that children see something "in the flesh". The more relevant the object, the better. For some the gull was spooky but for others seeing the gull generated their own questions - especially with children with behavioural problems. They behaved better when they could see it.

12. Teacher O: Non-user: Primary
Would you be interested in ordering mini-exhibitions for displays from the loan service?
Yes
Very interested.

13. Teacher P: Non-user: Primary
Would you be interested in ordering mini-exhibitions for displays from the loan
service?
Yes

14. Teacher Q: User: Secondary
Would you be interested in ordering mini-exhibitions for displays from the loan service?
Yes
Absolutely!

15. Teacher R: User: Secondary
Would you be interested in ordering mini-exhibitions for displays from the loan service?
Yes

16. Teacher S: User: Secondary
Would you be interested in ordering mini-exhibitions for displays from the loan service?
Yes
If the museum was happy with the safety aspect.

17. Teacher V: Non-user: Secondary
Would you be interested in ordering mini-exhibitions for displays from the loan service?
The head has appointed someone to do display around the school. You would have to ask them about it. (I asked if the person appointed was a designer). No, they are not a designer.

18. Teacher W: Non-user: Secondary
Would you be interested in ordering mini-exhibitions for displays from the loan service?
Yes
Yes, because the children have a limited experience of museums. It would be like having a little bit of museum in the classroom. A display relating to: the Home Front/WWII; Medieval Realms; the Romans; the Tudors and Stuarts or the Industrial Revolution would be most relevant.

19. Teacher X: Non-user: Secondary
Would you be interested in ordering mini-exhibitions for displays from the loan service?
No
No. There are even break-ins in the office area.

20. Teacher Y: Non-user: Secondary
Would you be interested in ordering mini-exhibitions for displays from the loans service?
Yes
