Some quotes:
1. Wonderful creative writing, from a drama around the loans to a story. The loans are
an extremely successful starting point for the imagination - initiating research and
excellent observational drawing.
2. Making the clay tiles of our own from the real ones. The children really wanted to make
a box when they had seen the tin but we didn't have enough time to do that.
3. I have only been here a year and they did not have a loans service in Hertfordshire.
The best thing I've done with the loans is to get enthusiasm from the children. They were
fascinated by the shells.
4. Exploring the WWII loan was a success. Also the "mottoware" that we have got
right now. We went off at a tangent sharing all the mottoes that we know - it became
Literacy. There is a strong connection between Art and Literacy.

| Teacher Interview: Question 15: Individual Answers: |
Key: A "user" is a school that already uses the loan
service. A "non-user" is a school that does not currently use the loan service.
1. Teacher A: User: Primary
What's the best thing you've ever done with a loan object?
That is difficult to answer. I think the best thing you can "do" with loans
is touch them - the farm, a lichen log, the animals, the fox, for example.
2. Teacher B: User: Primary
What's the best thing you've ever done with a loan object?
Similar to what I did today with the glove powderer (see observation report for
research activity at Arborfield School). It fires the children to make deductions.
3. Teacher C: User: Primary

The Earth and Beyond things were good. There is nothing like seeing things in 3D.

make a box when they had seen the tin but we didn't have enough time to do that.
10. Teacher J: User: Primary
What's the best thing you've ever done with a loan object?
When the children dress up as people. Because infants find it hard to understand
without personal experience and touching. We know this is effective because of the
follow-up writing the children do after this experience: how they felt wearing the
different styles of clothes and what was different about it.
11. Teacher K: User: Primary
What's the best thing you've ever done with a loan object?
Using Victorian school things. We had the girls dress up in a green school uniform. We
acted out the Victorian school using slates and reading by rote.
12. Teacher L: Non-user: Primary
What's the best thing you've ever done with a loan object?
Lesley could not comment on the best activity she had done but she did mention that
she could foresee the artefacts as helping in the development of language at their school
where nearly all the children have English as their second language. It would give the
children a different perspective on the culture. Often what has been used in our history
is currently being used elsewhere.

When the senior citizens that visit the school loan their collections and photos to
the children. Last time, one 70 year old brought in his toys from when he was child. This
is the best thing because the people were part of the artefacts. It also brought young and
old together.
