Teacher Interview: Question 18: Should the new notes be directed to the teacher, to the students, or both?

Conclusion: 92% (23) of 25 teachers wanted the notes to be aimed at the students and the teachers. They outlined the need for brief and simplified child-friendly material that could be speedily processed by the teacher. This material should also be able to be displayed.

Summary of findings:
25 teachers were asked this question. These are their responses.
  • · 92% (23) of the teachers said that the new notes should be directed to both the teacher and the students.
  • · 4% (1) of the teachers said that the new notes should be directed to the teacher alone.
  • · 4% (1) of the teachers said that the new notes should only be directed to the students.

Some of the Quotes:
1. Some notes are often high faluting. Teachers aren't always specialists. The costume ones were too detailed. There needs to be differentiation.
2. The notes need to be updated and simplified for both the teacher and the students. There is too much information. They really are dreadful. An idea of how to use the loans with the children would be helpful.
3. It would be nice to have something to put on display. Even things other teachers can hand on to you: "This is...Have you noticed...?"
4. There is already a lot of information for the teacher but I don't have enough time to go through it all. Maybe if I was sent some brief notes before the artefacts arrive? The notes for the children would have to be able to be accessible to early years children.
5. Its not easy because you have a range of ages: lower junior, upper junior, secondary. The current information is too dense. You just need a few things.
6. With a loan containing information about pottery and kilns it took quite a time to extract the information into a form that was presentable to the students.
7. We liked the pictures that you had included in the loans boxes and are going to photocopy some of them. We think they are very good. It would be useful to have them in child friendly writing.
