Teacher Interview: Question 29: If we could do one thing to improve the presentation of our loan boxes what would that be?

Conclusion: 60% (15) of the 25 suggestions from 17 teachers related to the need to improve the notes and other paper museum resources that accompany the objects including pictures, labels, a plan and shared ideas. This was followed by 28% of ideas (7) which related to changing the physical/decorative aspects of the loan box: its colour, logo, material and mobility.

Finally, 12% of the ideas (3) touched on the number of objects contained in a loan: more than one and less than "too many".

Teacher Interview: Question 29: Individual Answers:

Key: A "user" is a school that already uses the loan service. A "non-user" is a school that does not currently use the loan service.

1. Teacher A: User: Primary
If we could do one thing to improve the presentation of our loan boxes what would that be?
The information.

2. Teacher B: User: Primary
If we could do one thing to improve the presentation of our loan boxes what would that be?
Clearer information including a plan of where things go in the box and what they are.

3. Teacher C: User: Primary
If we could do one thing to improve the presentation of our loan boxes what would that be?
I liked it because they looked old. The old suitcases match the concept of the seaside holiday. They are relevant to our project.

4. Teacher D: User: Primary
If we could do one thing to improve the presentation of our loan boxes what would that be?
Updating the pictures. They are very old-fashioned in a visual society. They do still teach something, but...

5. Teacher E: User: Primary
If we could do one thing to improve the presentation of our loan boxes what would that be?
The notes - as I've been saying.

6. Teacher F: User: Primary
If we could do one thing to improve the presentation of our loan boxes what would that be?
As much interactive stuff as possible. Information that you could choose to give them or not.

7. Teacher G: User: Primary
If we could do one thing to improve the presentation of our loan boxes what would that be?
To have more appropriate information, better labelling and more child-friendly notes.

8. Teacher H: User: Primary
If we could do one thing to improve the presentation of our loan boxes what would that be?
They're superb!

9. Teacher I: User: Primary
If we could do one thing to improve the presentation of our loan boxes what would that be?
The boxes are not important. It's what's inside them that matters!

10. Teacher K: User: Primary
If we could do one thing to improve the presentation of our loan boxes what would that be?
Updating the pictures on card. They are not very exciting. It would be good to have some nice infant friendly pictures.

11. Teacher L: Non-user: Primary
If we could do one thing to improve the presentation of our loan boxes what would that be?
A set of travel wheels for the heavier loans or retractable wheels. You don't want to have to lift a taller case awkwardly and hurt yourself. The boxes need to be more colourful - maybe made of a warm plastic, a light material. Also to have the museum logo on the front so that the children know that they are from the museum.

12. Teacher M: Non-user: Primary
If we could do one thing to improve the presentation of our loan boxes what would that be?
The notes is an area to enhance. Detail the use of what's in the loan for the children and teachers. For teachers, these ideas are better than factual detail. Teachers know the facts already. For children - key pieces of information and questions for them to think about.

13. Teacher N: Non-user: Primary
If we could do one thing to improve the presentation of our loan boxes what would that be?
If you can't take an object out of a box (perspex) they should be labelled and in more modern containers.

14. Teacher O: Non-user: Primary
If we could do one thing to improve the presentation of our loan boxes what would that be?
They haven't changed. They are practical. It is better if they are a whole set of items rather than an individual item. Children's work could go back to the museum to be shared with other teachers - you could build up a scrap book of these ideas. Teachers love to share their ideas. The artefacts could have a life history of their use in photographs and learning resources produced by teachers.

15. Teacher P: Non-user: Primary
If we could do one thing to improve the presentation of our loan boxes what would that be?
It's the content that's important.

16. Teacher Q: User: Secondary
If we could do one thing to improve the presentation of our loan boxes what would that be?
More information about the objects.

17. Teacher R: User: Secondary
If we could do one thing to improve the presentation of our loan boxes what would that be?
A brighter colour so that they stand out. They are hard to find when it is time to pack the objects away. They are fine actually. They carry well.

18. Teacher S: User: Secondary
If we could do one thing to improve the presentation of our loan boxes what would that be?
It doesn't matter what they come in - its what's inside that counts. The suitcases are like Christmas. The only snag is when there is a lot of objects. Then there is too much to take out and put back again. A clear sheet to indicate what is inside would be helpful.

19. Teacher T: User: Secondary
If we could do one thing to improve the presentation of our loan boxes what would that be?
To have an obvious logo on the loan box. But not the current design. Not something which looks so uniform - a redesigned logo.

20. Teacher U: User: Secondary
If we could do one thing to improve the presentation of our loan boxes what would that be?
We're very happy - but think about that class sizes are 30/32 so there should be about 15 objects in each case which allows 1 between 2.

21. Teacher V: Non-user: Secondary
If we could do one thing to improve the presentation of our loan boxes what would that be?
The boxes are not a problem. Doesn't really matter.

22. Teacher W: Non-user: Secondary
If we could do one thing to improve the presentation of our loan boxes what would that be?
We are happy with the ones we have (North American jacket, moccasins, pony saddle and beaded hat and scabbard)

23. Teacher X: Non-user: Secondary
If we could do one thing to improve the presentation of our loan boxes what would that be?
Repackaging - a better material than wood.

24. Teacher Y: Non-user: Secondary
If we could do one thing to improve the presentation of our loan boxes what would that be?
Ready access to the information. Beware of putting in too much text though.
