Conclusion: 33% (8) of 24 teachers recommended an improved, more
pictorial catalogue which would give easier access to available loans. 17% (4) of teachers
recommended improved advertising and 8% (2) improved notes.
Other ideas involved: better timing of the loans (8%); knowing in advance what is
coming (4%); more costumes (4%); more local loans (4%); more variety of loans (4%), more
loans (4%) and continued local authority funding (4%). 8% (2) of the teachers did not make
any recommendations.
These recommendations for the loan service as a whole tie in closely with the responses
to Question 30.
Summary of findings:
24 teachers were asked this question. These are their responses.
- · 33% (8) of the teachers recommended an improved pictorial catalogue giving easier
access to what is available: Teachers A, B, C, G, M, P, R and Q.
- · 17% (4) of the teachers recommended improved advertising and communication: Teachers
D, L, V and Y.
- · 8% (2) Of the teachers recommended better information/notes: Teachers K and N
- · 8% (2) of the teachers recommended better timing of loans: Teachers O and S
- · 8% (2) of the teachers said they could not make any recommendations: Teachers W and
X.
- · While 25% of the teachers (6) each recommended different ideas: knowing in advance
what you are getting (Teacher E); more costume loans (Teacher F); more local loans
(Teacher I); more variety of loans (Teacher U); simply "more" (Teacher H) and
continued local authority funding (Teacher T).

It is difficult to find what you want. It takes a long time to go through the
catalogue. The new website sounds like a good idea.

Making it easier to access what is available.

It should be more "in your face". Advertise yourself more. As the history
coordinator I am keen to use the service. I need a poster or something to help me
advertise you to the other teachers.

Knowing what you're getting in advance - even if its not what was ordered.

The new website will answer this. It will give so much more access to get what you
want when you want it. Then you can plan to use the objects more successfully instead of
getting one of four choices.

Giving more information about the objects and relevance to a particular key stage. It
sounds like you are addressing this issue with a website.

To let people know that there is a loans service. It was not mentioned when they came
for a visit to "A Victorian Christmas" and they have not seen any other
advertising of it.

The length of time for the loan is not long enough. I'd like to see the time of the
loan extended.

Funding. We do not want a choice to buy in, we want local authority to do it for us.

More variety. Some boxes are limited due to the fact that you can't use them with a
whole class due to class sizes.

I couldn't recommend one at the moment. We're still really excited about having the

The website sounds good. I can't complain! Maybe it could be better marketed to
secondary schools in an A5 form with what's available highlighted. You should have a
separate one for secondary than primary. Otherwise we take one look and think "Oh,
that's primary". It should say KS3 or KS4.
