Teacher Interview: Question 32: Do you make the connection between the loan service and the Museum of Reading?


Conclusion: Only 50% (10) of 20 teachers made a mental connection between the loans and the Museum of Reading and only 30% (6) felt that their students realised that the loans were from the museum. This conclusion underlines the need for increased branding and heightened marketing.

Summary of findings:
20 teachers were asked this question. These are their responses.
  • · Exactly 50% (10) of the teachers said "yes", they did make a mental connection between the loans and the Museum of Reading. The remaining 50% (10) said "no", they did not link the loans and the Museum of Reading.
  • · Only 30% (6) of the teachers felt that their students realised that the loans were connected with the Museum of Reading.

Key: A "user" is a school that already uses the loan service. A "non-user" is a school that does not currently use the loan service.

I would but the children don't.

And so do the children now. I tell them that they are from the museum and encourage them to go to the museum if they want to see more.

Teacher: I did the Silchester course and used the museum's artefacts. Children: When I asked the groups of children about the origin of the loans none of them knew they were from the Museum of Reading

The teachers definitely do. I only said to the children that the loans are from the museum - but not the Museum of Reading. They go into the centre of Reading regularly so I should have mentioned it. The students brought their parents in after school to see the loans in the classroom too.
