Reading Museum Service is delighted to announce
the launch of a 4-year Loans Partnership Project,
following an award of £957,000 by the Heritage
Lottery Fund (HLF).

Reading Museum’s Loans Service
is one of the largest and best known in the
country. The collection consists of 20,000
objects in more than 1,500 loans boxes. With
Hands-on Learning schools in Berkshire and
Buckinghamshire have access to cross-curricular
themed boxes packed with real objects, which
children can touch and explore.
20 partner museums across Berkshire and Buckinghamshire
have committed to joining the HLF Outside
the Box project to extend the Loans Service,
adding exciting collections such as Greek
archaeology, objects relating to Roald Dahl,
military history artefacts and Victorian boxes. |
There are currently 115 primary and secondary schools
that are members of the Hands-on Learning scheme,
placing more than 1,750 reservations per year. It
is estimated that loans boxes are used in about
10,000 classes per year, providing access to about
250,000 pupils.
Other uses of the loans service will be explored
by working with partners, using loans boxes for
family activities and holiday events during school
vacations. A brand new Reminiscence Service is also
being developed as part of the project.
