A History of the World - a partnership with BBC Berkshire
|
|
Launches 18 January 2010
‘A History of the World’ is a unique partnership between the BBC, the British Museum and local museums focusing on world history during 2010.
We have worked with BBC Berkshire and other local museums to choose ten museum objects that show Berkshire’s global connections throughout history.
Six of the Berkshire objects come from Reading Museum's collection. Five are displayed at Reading Museum. These are the Roman Silchester Eagle, a medieval capital from Reading Abbey, an African thumb piano made from a Huntley & Palmers biscuit tin, a steel pan from Reading's first carnival and a robot made by the University of Reading. At the Riverside Museum you can see our sixth object, a beautiful Dunton's gypsy caravan.
Don't miss our special free 'A History of the World' event with BBC Radio Berkshire on Monday 15 February.

Reading A to Z Exhibition
|
05 December 2009 to 18 April 2010
Reading has too often been dismissed as being a modern place with little history. This exhibition shows that our 'much-maligned town' is a fascinating and diverse place with its own unique character and long history.
Each letter, from A to Z, is illustrated by some well-known and some more unexpected objects and artworks from the Museum's extensive collection of local history, art and archaeology. So expect to find everything from a barber's shop to a Boar's Head in this exhibition.
It's also your chance to share your views and memories by telling us what you would have included in the A to Z.

New look for the Museum website - coming soon
|
|
This winter watch out for a radical change to the Reading Museum website!
We love our website but it's showing its age a bit now, so we've got a new one in development - the picture gives you an idea what the home page will look like. We'll be taking the opportunity to make some changes to the layout so things should be easier to find, and it will help us make even more news, activities and collection information available in the future. We hope you'll like it!
Our school loans booking service Loans Online has already moved to the new format, click this link to see it and search for loans boxes.
