Celebrate Berkshire birds with Robert Gillmor and the BOC

Lapwing by Robert Gillmor
This week we have two events organised in association with the Berkshire Ornithological Club and our Robert Gillmor Retrospective exhibition. Come for a walk to look for wildfowl at Dinton Pastures, and drop in to the Museum for Birders Day – you don’t need to be an expert and there will be fun activities for children.
Birders Day on Saturday 25 February is a celebration of Robert Gillmor’s long association with local birdwatching, notably the Berkshire Ornithological Club. Club members will be putting on displays, competitions and activities for all the family in the Museum, and will be happy to chat to visitors about birds and birdwatching. There will be illustrated talks by Club chairman Renton Righelato and Club President Neil Bucknell at 12pm and 2pm - follow the link or download the event flyer below for more details.
Robert Gillmor himself will be coming to the Museum to support the Birders Day event, bringing with him a selection of his latest linocut works commissioned for the new Royal Mail Post & Go stamp series, Rare Breed Farm Animals, which is being launched on Friday 24 February.
A book featuring Robert's previous stamp designs, Birds, Blocks and Stamps: Post & Go Birds of Britain, was produced by Reading publisher Two Rivers Press to coincide with the retrospective and is available from the Museum Shop at an exclusive price of £10.
On Thursday 23 February, you can follow up Ray Reedman’s January talk with a walk at Dinton Pastures Country Park, looking at local wildfowl with experts from the Berkshire Ornithological Club. Meet at 10.00am at the car park next to the Museum of Berkshire Aviation, Mohawk Way, Woodley - no previous experience necessary! Full details in the event listing below.
