RGA Print Sale on Saturday 28 January

Robert Gillmor demonstrates printmaking at the RGA Celebration Day

On Saturday 28 January Reading Guild of Artists held a sale of original prints by members as part of an event celebrating the life and work of master linocutter Robert Gillmor, himself a long-standing member.

Printmakers in Reading Guild of Artists treated visitors to demonstrations and shared tips with budding artists. Members of the public browsed through works for sale and tried their hands at printing with historic presses in a relaxed celebration of the Guild and printing, surrounded by the works of Robert Gillmor in the John Madejski Art Gallery at Reading Museum.

Martin Andrews entertained with a whirlwind history of past Guild members who specialised in printing such as William McCance, Agnes Miller-Parker and Allen Seaby, and let his audience handle his collection of historic prints. The demonstrators included Robert Gillmor who worked on his latest linocut commission between signing books and chatting with visitors. (The Royal Mail stamps resulting from this commission, Rare Breed Farm Animals, will be released in February.)
