Art School: 150 years of Fine Art in Reading

1 May - 26 September 2010

This summer the Museum joins the University of Reading to celebrate 150 years of formal art education for adults in Reading. The University’s prestigious Fine Art department has its origins in the Reading Government School of Art, which opened in the town centre in 1860. The celebrations will include an exhibition of work by tutors and students in the John Madejski Art Gallery with an associated programme of activities.

  Dressed to Express

18 September 2010 to 02 January 2011

Every day we get up and, in the act of choosing something to wear, give clues about who we are. Clothes don’t just keep us warm and decent. They also express our personality, say something about where we think we belong in society and even show what mood we’re in.
This exhibition is about the clothes teenagers wear and the reasons they dress the way they do. It features a group of young people who were between 14 and 20 at the end of 2007.
