Silchester Gallery
This gallery features items from Reading's renowned collection of artefacts excavated from the Roman town near Silchester, including the famous Silchester eagle.
The town of Calleva Atrebatum lay largely undisturbed for over 1,000 years until large-scale excavations began in the 1860's. A wealth of objects from the site are on display in the gallery. This includes jewellery, fine glass and pottery, sculpture, mosaics, iron tools and coins.
A visit to the gallery will reveal the home life of a wealthy citizen's town house; the political and legal life of the Forum and Basilica; the social scene at the baths; and the shops, inns and workshops of the town.
