Roman Britain Virtual Session

This session will give children the opportunity to explore history through primary evidence. They will discover how Romans would have lived in the town of Calleva Atrebatum (modern Silchester), understand the impact of Roman occupation on the existing British inhabitants and explore diversity in Roman Britain using the University of Reading Romans Revealed project.

In this one-hour live session we will use activities, objects, videos and photographs to bring the past to life and inspire the children to want to learn more about Roman Britain.

Resources for this session include:

  • Downloadable resources to prepare for the session
  • Interactive activities and videos to engage children during the session including a video of the archaeological site at Silchetser and a short presentation on diversity by Professor Hella Eckardt, Head of the Achaeological Department at Reading University.
  • Downloadable resources and suggestions for follow-up activities in the classroom including a craft activity, a story-telling exercise and a 3D object exploration.
