Stone carving at Waterfest

Venue: Reading Abbey Ruins

Stone carving on slate in the Transept at Waterfest

Stray a few paces from the waterside, into the Abbey Ruins, pick up a chisel and indulge in the sheer pleasure of creating form onto slate. Contribute to a collaborative effort or spend more time working on your own piece of slate to take home later.

The theme of the day will be the Grotesque, You will produce a low relief of this irreverant figure, such as would have stared down at you from the Abbey during its heyday. No artistic skill or previous experience needed as Reading-based stone sculptor McAlistair Hood will be on hand to guide and encourage you all the way.

No need to book, but limited space - so turn up early and have a go.
