Venue: The MERL and Reading Museum
Literacy Conference
The morning at The Museum of English Rural Life (MERL) will focus on Poetry with Jack Thacker, former Poet in Residence at The Museum of English Rural Life. Jack’s poetry has been inspired by The MERL’s collections and he will be running a workshop with you exploring how poetry-writing can be used as part of cross curricular learning opportunities. It will be a practical workshop, drawing on our collections.
In the afternoon at Reading Museum and Town Hall will explore story telling with Cath Edwards, a professional storyteller, workshop leader and writer. Her latest book is West Midlands Folk Tales, published by the History Press. She has recently written a creative writing resource for teachers, available on Reading Museum’s website, and she has ghost-written a book of stories created by families, inspired by Reading Abbey ruins. She will lead a hands-on creative writing workshop which promises to be absorbing, informative and fun.
There is limited bookable parking at The MERL, none at Reading Museum.
