In this talk, Professor Anne Lawrence will look in depth at the surviving manuscripts from Reading Abbey, including the one in Reading Museum. She will discuss the creation of the manuscripts and their collection into an impressive library, and show examples of the kinds of manuscripts which would have been used in the abbey church. As well as looking at some of the treasures of the Abbey’s library we will see how King John and Henry VIII treated the collection!
