New Story of Reading Gallery

Venue: Reading Museum

The New Story of Reading Gallery opens on 12 February 2018 and explores our town's long history from its origins in the 6th century right up to the present day. The first part of the gallery highlights the town’s history before Reading Abbey was established by King Henry I in 1121, and then focuses on the history of the abbey leading up to its closure in 1539. Displays explore life after the abbey and the impact of the Civil War.

This is the first part of our new interpretation scheme for the Abbey Quarter to be completed as part of the Reading Abbey Revealed project supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund.
