The area that is now full of office blocks such as the glass 'Blade' building as well as the aptly named 'Abbey House' and 'Abbots House' was once the practical, service end of Reading Abbey.
There would have been a dormitory for abbey servants and guests to sleep, a refectory (dining hall), a mill and the abbey kitchen.
