We update this page with any planned service disruptions and closures that might affect our visitors and access arrangements, including essential maintenance and special events.
Update on recurring heatwaves during summer 2026
Please note the museum is only partly air-conditioned, and some of our second-floor galleries can get very warm during heatwaves. We suggest dressing in comfortable clothing and bringing bottled water. We have fans and cooler air-conditioned spaces where you can cool down.
In the event of extreme heat (particularly during an amber or red heat warning), we may have to close galleries at short notice or cancel tours and activities. If you are booked onto a tour/event which is going ahead but feel you will not be able to attend due to the heat, we are happy to issue refunds. Please call us on 01189373400 or email Museum.Visiting@reading.gov.uk
