Creative Writing responding to the Silchester Collection with Lesley Saunders
Join acclaimed poet and teacher Lesley Saunders for a workshop creating poetry and other writing in response to the fabulous Roman finds on display in Reading Museum.
After an introduction to the collection of jewellery, tools, coins, sculpture, pottery, glass and mosaics we will discuss how artefacts and documents from the deep past can speak to us as powerfully as modern possessions.
We will look at various ways of representing the archaeological and textual past in poetry, from found poems to philological explorations, and from imagined biographies to laments for what is forever lost. There will then be plenty of time to work individually and to compose a piece of writing of your own.
Please bring materials to write on and with. The museum café will be open and there are several places to eat nearby.
