Talk 1: Exhibiting the Bayeux Tapestry
The Bayeux Tapestry is the most famous artwork to survive from medieval Europe. The 70-metre-long embroidery narrates events leading to the Battle of Hastings in 1066 and the Norman Conquest of England. As the only contemporary visual depiction of these events, it is a witness to history as well as a daringly ambitious undertaking, cinematic in its storytelling and imagery. Join curator Michael Lewis to discover the incredible story of the Bayeux Tapestry's loan to the UK and its exhibition at the British Museum.
