Peter Hay (1951-2003) was a painter, printmaker, poet and activist who inspired creativity in the town. He died tragically young.

Peter Hay was the visionary founder of Two Rivers Press, Reading’s art press for over 30 years.

Hay’s work is highly individual, deeply Romantic, bold and energetic. There is usually a suggestion of the real world with its people and creatures within his abstract images. Here he simply enjoys the rhythm and flow of the paint, although the vertical composition still suggests nature filled with life-force.

The Museum’s collection reflects the range of Hay’s work including wonderful tiny prints made with W H Smith erasers that became his hallmark as an illustrator.
