Museum on Wheels is our new hands-on outreach programme aiming to visit venues throughout Reading for a variety of festivals and community events.

We want to make people proud of the significant history of Reading by spreading the word about our exciting exhibitions, projects and collections, and opportunities to get involved.

Please email Museum.Education@reading.gov.uk for more information.

Abbey on Wheels in 2018

Last year Abbey on Wheels popped up across Reading with changing activities such as:

Handle real museum objects from Reading Museum.
Wear our virtual-reality headset and be transported to the top of the conservation scaffold to get a unique perspective of our ongoing work.
Paint a tile inspired by some of the remaining tiles from Reading Abbey.

New Museum on Wheels Events in 2019

This year our programme continues with Museum on Wheels exploring the varied and fantastic history of Reading from the first Anglo-Saxon Settlement, through our impressive medieval past with the building of Reading Abbey to the Industrial Revolution and even the present day.

Are you holding a community event in 2019?

Do you know of an event or venue where we can spread the word about Reading Abbey and Museum? This is a community project so we would love to hear your suggestions! Email museum.education@reading.gov.uk or fill in the enquiry form below so we can discuss your idea further.

Talks and Outreach Visits

We also offer talks, handling presentations and outreach visits during museum open hours, Monday - Saturday 10am-4pm.

We charge for these events to cover the cost of staff, resources and transport.

Please email Museum.Education@reading.gov.uk for more information.

We'd like to thank the Earley Charity who support our Museum on Wheels project.
