Essential building maintenance

Last updated: 22nd September 2023

Over the coming months, we are carrying out some essential maintenance on the exterior of Reading Town Hall. Reading Museum and the Town Hall are open as usual, but please read below for updates on the building work.

Step-free access via the main entrance has now reopened for all visitors to the Reading Museum and the Town Hall. Scaffolding has now been erected and is likely to be in place into winter 2024 while repairs take place to the building's facade.

The pavement between Valpy Street and Town Hall Square is open, under the scaffolding gantry, and this also provides access our main entrance, see the images below.

We will continue to keep you updated on our progress. Thank you.

Over the coming weeks we will be carrying out some essential building maintenance on the exterior of Reading Town Hall.

For public safety, we have installed barriers along the front of the building. Part of the pavement outside the town hall is therefore temporarily closed.

The main entrance to the Museum/Town Hall will temporarily move to clock tower end, near to the Pantry Café, this includes disabled access. Services at the Town Hall and Museum are unaffected.

We have signage in place to direct people to these diverted routes and we apologise for any inconvenience. We will continue to keep you updated on our progress.

Thank you for your patience.
